A few years ago I discovered that I absolutely don't have slender genes. I had gained a lot of weight in a short period of time. I was no longer happy with the way I looked and I hated having pictures taken of myself. At that moment, I decided that something had to change. I wanted to be proud of myself and was dedicated to change this situation. That was the start of my health journey. I have already lost 8 kg but above that I have learned many things. I learned what perseverance is, what it is like to be proud of myself and above all how to love a healthy lifestyle. Fall in love with the process of becoming the very best version of yourself. On this road, I encountered many obstacles. There were times when I did not succeed in losing weight. No matter what I did, I didn't feel like anything was changing. I started to look into it and looked for reasons that could be the cause of this. So I tried out some tips and discovered that sometimes it is the little things that keep you from achieving the best version of yourself. #1 Are you sure? Are you sure you are not losing weight? Sometimes it may not show on the scales but your body has definitely slimmed down. So try to focus more on your measurements or before-and-after pictures than on the number on the scale. It also depends on the individual. Some lose weight more easily than others. If you are a bit heavier, you will also lose kilos sooner at the beginning than a person who is already lower in weight. #2 Food quality I have not realised this for a long time, but the quality of food is so important. I prefer natural products bought from a local trader to pre-packaged products from a supermarket. If I buy my food from a local trader, I know where it comes from and what has been done to it. Often these products contain much less sugar. #3 Only cardio It could be that you are only doing cardio training. I have noticed that I get much better results when I combine cardio training with strength training. I went looking for the reason and discovered that the bigger your muscles are, the more calories you burn. A good combination of the two seems to me to be the best way. Try to do some strength exercises after your cardio workout. #4 Binge eating on healthy food Maybe you already manage to eat healthy but you still eat too much. Of course, you can eat a lot more of healthy food than of products that are high in calories. But I noticed that I was eating far too much than I needed to. I didn't think it was a problem since it's healthy food, but too much is still too much. Try to listen to your body. Are you really hungry or do you just feel like eating? #5 Night owl Sleep is so important for losing weight. During sleep, your hormones ghrelin and leptin are controlled. These are responsible for your feeling of satiety. So too little sleep causes you to eat many more calories during the day. When you sleep, you also burn about 0.9 kilocalories per kilo per hour. So being a sleeping beauty once in a while is very good for your health. These tips have helped me so much in my weight loss journey. Hopefully, they will help you a step further too. I can't wait to see your results! Love, Mégan The beautiful summer days are ahead of us, which means lots of aperitifs with tasty snacks. I love everything sweet and sometimes catch myself ingesting a lot of sugar. The day after, I always have a bit of a hangover. I suffer from headaches and fatigue from eating too much sugar. This isn't the nicest feeling, so I looked for solutions that would make me feel better in no time. I don't sugar coat shit, I'm not Willy Wonka It is common knowledge that sugar is not good for you, but sometimes it is hard to resist. I am guilty of this from time to time and always complain the next day because my body is no longer full of energy. The intake of too much sugar causes an unstable blood sugar level. When the blood sugar level is too high, your body will produce insulin which will make you feel tired and lifeless. Fortunately, there are many ways to solve this problem. #1 I want it all When you ingest sugar, a hormone called dopamine is produced. This is a happiness hormone and will make you feel happy. The production of this hormone makes your body want to consume even more sugar. Which, of course, is only worse for your body. So the message is; don't give in to it! Your body will thank you for it later. #2 Hydration Water is really your salvation here. It will flush out toxins and combat your bloating. It is also very good for your skin, which has also suffered from the intake of too much sugar. Win-win if you ask me! #3 Move it baby Exercise makes your body use the sugars instead of storing them. You don't have to run 10 kilometres for this, a quiet walk is enough to put your body to work. #4 Relax The intake of too much sugar sets another hormone to work: adrenaline. This is a hormone that causes stress. So it is especially important to stay calm and perhaps schedule a yoga session. #5 Prep prep prep Plan your meal for the day after. This way you avoid taking in too much sugar again and feeling even worse. Preferably eat a breakfast that contains a lot of protein. If you start to crave sugar again, choose a piece of fruit such as a banana that is high in natural sugars. I hope these tips will help you feel a little better after taking in too much sugar. If you have any more tips, let me know! Love, Mégan SHOP THE POSTIn this post I want to talk about 8 more expensive pieces that are definitly worth the investment. I own all of these pieces and I find that these really spice up most of my outfits. They provide that extra touch. I think it is important to think about these following things if you are going to buy something. Is this something I'm going to wear often? Is it going to last for a long time? Will this add value to my outfits? Let's get us started with the jewellery. I'm always wearing my Tom Hope gold bracelet and necklace. I find that adding this makes every outfit a bit more elegant. It's such a small piece that can make you look a lot more fancy. Jewelerry can sometimes be very expensive but I think it is definitly worth the investment since it lasts for a long time. I linked some cheaper alternatives from a brand called Subtile by a Belgian designer. I'm such a fan of her well-made jewellery that are not that expensive. I've also included some earrings from her collection that I really love. If you have your hair up these can be the perfect touch if you want that something extra. Leather jackets are my favourite! They really do fit with everything. Most of the times I wear it with a pair of jeans and a nice sweater but I also love wearing it to make my look a bit cooler when I'm wearing a dress. In the winter you can go for an aviator jacket. It adds the same vibe to your outfit but keeps you a lot warmer. Another important one to me is a pair of white sneakers. I have recently bought the V-10s by Veja and I'm in love. The white colour provides contrast if you are wearing a complete black outfit (which is often the case for me) and the black V makes you look very put together. These pieces are perfect for every season, so you will be able to wear it all your round! Mégan x FOLLOW:Do you like romantic boat trips, getting lost in narrow streets, eating yummy ice cream on a sunny day or pizza by the water? Then you have to put Venice on your bucket list for 2021! I know these are uncertain times, but we can dream right? Here's my little travel guide for a lovely trip to Venice. THE PERFECT TIMING I went to Venice in September and it was not that crowded but a major cause of this would have been the corona pandemic. Only European travellers were admitted in Italy. Normally, the busiest time is in June, July and August. If possible, it is better to avoid these months. At the hotel they also told us that large parts of Venice are flooded from November to March. So the best months to go are April, May, September and October. TIPS & TRICKS My travelbuddy is the best planner so thanks to her research we already knew all the do's and dont's. That saved us a lot of time and money! First of all, we had already arranged transport from the airport to our hotel through our travel agency. Because of that we were certain of transport on arrival and did not have to pay too much money. In Venice everything is transported by boats, there are no highways so you may have to walk a little further to your hotel. Our hotel was very close to the place where the boat dropped us off but even a long walk won't hurt on an island as beautiful as Venice. Since we as students do not have the largest budget, we have paid very close attention to food prices. The restaurants close to major attractions such as Saint Mark's Square were considerably more expensive than in quieter streets. Also look for restaurants where the menu is written in Italian, these are trational restaurants and often much cheaper. The disadvantage is that you then have no idea what you are going to eat but fortunately there is google translate! POPULAR MONUMENTAL Of course we went to see the tourist attractions. In advance we had made a folder on Pinterest containing all the buildings and places we wanted to visit with additional information and ideas of how others took pictures there. St Mark's Square This is just about the most popular and probably largest square in Venice. That is why it is also the busiest, but you should definitely go there because it is beautiful. Highly recommended; go to the square when the sun sets, you will have the most amazing view! The Bridge of Sighs You can find this bridge close to the St. Mark's Square. According to the stories, the prisoners were taken to prison along this bridge and were allowed to look at the outside world one last time. I love a little bit of history so I really wanted to take a look at this bridge. Rialto Bridge I have walked over that bridge at least 50 times as it was near our hotel. It is a very beautiful and impressive bridge, but all the other tourists in Venice know that as well, which makes it quite crowded. I can advise you to go there in the evening because then you will get a small overview of Venice with its beautiful lights. The Doge's Palace To gain access to this building you have to pay a small admission fee but this is definitely worth it. It is a lovely museum. Adisadvantage is that you can expect a long queue, so come early in the morning. Burano This is not really a monument, nor is it located in Venice, but it is a nearby island. It is about 40 minutes by boat from Venice and you can easily buy tickets for transport. Burano is a lovely fishing village with houses in different bright colours. The island is really worth seeing. You also have an island called Murano nearby. HIDDEN SPOTS There are also some hidden places in Venice that are certainly worth visiting. To start with, there is a place where you can take beautiful pictures on the waterfront with a bridge in the background and the occasional Gondola passing by. Of course I went to this place for a nice instagram photo. Thanks to some information on the Internet, we have found it. I have to admit that it was a search. The best venetian ice cream can be found at Suso. They have many different flavours and they are really delicious. It is certainly worth looking for this ice-cream parlour. Acqua Alta is an antique bookshop that looks so cute. You can find a lot of books there, especially old books. But it is also a very nice location to take pictures. You can find a staircase of stacked books that looks very beautiful. I really had a wonderful time in Venice and I can only recommend vistiting the island. Besides visiting the tourist attractions, try to get lost on the island. You will find the most beautiful spots. The island really is a gem in itself.
What to do when you have lots of time but nowhere to go? Find the beauty in your hometown! I live so close to a beautiful city called Bruges. It is a city normally bustling with tourist but due to the pandemic it was very quiet and peaceful. The perfect time to take some pictures! BASILICA OF THE HOLY BLOOD I really liked the red colored door and the golden details on the building. It's such a cute spot if you have lots of colors in your feed. We also took a look in the basilica and it was so beautiful! Radiant arches and beautiful windows. And did you know that Jezus Christ's blood is kept there too? You can even go look at it! GROENEREI Groenerei is a nice street to walk along the water. The canals run through the city, that's why Bruges is sometimes called the Venice of The Nord. There are cute houses along the water and you can even enjoy a little greenery yourself! SAINT BONIFACE BRIDE This place was most of the beautiful things I have seen in Bruges and it is so hidden! You had like everything you need for a good picture in a city. A little garden, a church, water and a bridge. I can't imagine a better Instagram spot in Belgium than this one! THE MARKET PLACE The market is like the centre of the city. It is normally a place where everyone comes together; tourists, locals,...Buuut it was so quiet and calm now! The amazing time to take some pictures in front of the colorful houses and the belfry. PS. When you go all the way up the belfry you can have a view of the whole city! Breathtaking for sure! ROZENHOEDKAAI The rozenhoedkaai is the most beautiful spot along the water in Bruges, in my opinion. You have like small houses, boats and little restaurants. Everything about this spot is just so cute! I'm in love. |
